Why do more of us act like corn seeds than popped corn?

Most of us dread change and resist it so much that we surround ourselves with a hard shell just like the corn seed does to protect its potential within. In doing so, we often fail to release the potential within us. When the heat is on, we panic and that’s when we really discover our true talent. Wouldn’t it be great if we had a machine that could explode our potential into a tasty treat like popcorn? What are the ways you hold back your own potential or, what are the ways others have caused you to hold back your potential? - Dr. Melody Cofield

Are apples and oranges really all that different?

Have you ever referred to "mixing apples and oranges" as a way of expressing two completely different things?  Did you know they are from the same fruit family?  Under ideal circumstances...such as in a fruit salad...don't they "pear" up nicely and actually compliment one another?  In fact, there has been at least two "unscientific" studies on the subject indicating that the two fruits are actually quite similar.  So much so that many languages refer to oranges as a "golden apple!"

How would life be if we spoke the same way about the differences we see in other people who are different from us?  Wouldn't that make diversity delicious?

Is your dream big enough?

Melody Cofield

Your
dream should be much bigger than you. At minimum, your dream should
embrace others you care about. It should also include those they care
about
in some meaningful way.
Why? Because when you focus too much on you, your dream may end up
placing limitations on what is possible.  Petty personal things will
get in the way.
Remember, it is important to have
others support your dream and if it is focused entirely on you then their
support may not be as enduring.
The best dreams are really, really BIG dreams that factor in how the world benefits from your particular dream.  When your dream is really big, it will attract people and resources beyond your personal circle to help you make it real. ...<< MORE >>

What is gossip?

Gossip is
a speech habit that exists when a person is incomplete about something.
When this happens, we tell stories by repeating circumstances, issues,
and points from the past. Repeating the story perpetuates the
incompletion. How many stories must we tell to sustain the habits of
our pain? What drama gets cultivated? How much time will we spend
gossiping because we are not at peace with ourselves or with something
that happened in the past. It is not the they out there, but the me in
here. Gossip is a way of highlighting our weaknesses and the weaknesses
of others. Gossiping is our way of keeping everyone focused
on our incompletions. Collectively, gossiping become the social
management of all our incompletions. As such, we keep the pain or the
incompletion alive not only within ourselves but as a burden out in the
world. You could say all our social ills comes from the collective
incompletions of all people. It doesn't matter if what happened is real
or true, but that it continues and remains incomplete. When ...<< MORE >>

The Age of the Creative Entrepreneur

Melody Cofield

What is needed today more than ever is to create more markets and opportunities to tap the creative capabilities and potential of far greater numbers of people. The question is what are people doing to participate in the need to change? I believe this is the age of the Creative Entrepreneurs. The Chinese term for crisis is "danger-opportunity" Without the danger there cannot arise the opportunity. In this time of "danger-opportunity" there are likely to be opportunities to create new economies. Creativity shapes  reality and influences the dream. Our dream produces our inner passion. Most of us supress it for so long, it is almost impossible to be crystal clear about what it is. Put it out on the table, and let's go to work on it. Ultimately we want to transform it into meaningful assets for you and the world.

Small decisions can change your life forever.

"Sometimes it's the smallest decisions that can change your life forever.”
--- Kerri Russell, Actress

I was thinking, have you ever noticed how the small decisions, the little passionate ones, are sometimes where we uncover hidden answers to what really drives us? Like the time when my brothers and I were cleaning  our parent’s home in preparation for sale and discovered mom’s journals  dating back to 1938. I thought I saved them for sentimental reasons  when I decided to keep them. But then, three weeks later I found myself offering journaling workshops. Now, explain how three years later I find the greatest joy facilitating these workshops!  I think there was more in that decision moment, don’t you? Have you noticed a time when your small decisions impacted your life forever?
